You know what they say about the family that throws axes together…
For Father’s Day this year, my wonderful family decided to treat me to an experience that was definitely a sharp departure from the usual: axe throwing! And let me tell you, it was a blast.
The arsenal wasn’t limited to just axes; we also had knives and these impressively hefty steel throwing ‘stars’ at our disposal. Interestingly, none of them seemed particularly sharp, and the wooden targets looked like they’d already survived multiple Viking invasions. By the time we were done, those targets looked even more ‘loved.’
We learned a couple of crucial things. Firstly, and most importantly (joking… mostly!), families armed with throwable chunks of steel can be a tad intimidating. You definitely don’t want to turn your back on them! But the actual insight we gained was about the art of the throw. It seems raw distance plays a more significant role than intricate technique. Get the distance right, and the projectile is more likely to rotate perfectly to hit point-first.
All kidding aside, it was an absolutely great time filled with laughter and a surprising amount of satisfying thuds (and a few clangs). Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll be looking over my shoulder a bit more often. Thanks for an unforgettable Father’s Day, team!
