The weekend between Disney and Universal we went to a makerfaire and got to participate and a combat robot competition in the 1lbs division. Brian built and drove Sir Lance-a-little, a 1lbs wedge. While wedges aren’t the most exciting bots, for a first time bot it’s usually the way to go. What made Sir Lance-a-little more interesting was the fact that it had large Fingertech Silverspark motors around fore and aft even the wheels were side by side with just a slight (motor width’s) offset. Normally that would cause some drive issues, but Sir Lance-a-little uses a gyroscope to auto correct any wheel speed difference or slippage. This allowed for incredibly straight driving at high speeds. So box rushes were a good option… except against Banana Splitter. That evil under cutter bot basically resurfaced the floor and took anything touch the floor, like wheels, with it. But for a bot that was built in short order it did pretty well. I survived a 3 pound rumble, and Sir Lance-a-little was just over half a pound. Not bad considering it didn’t even have armor when we arrived in Orlando. We literally bent the armor into shape using the leverage of door and it’s hinges!
