Free Web Pages (Space and URL)
The sites I use
- XOOM 11 MB of space for your homepage. Also free clip art, CGI scripts, and much more. And thevery best thing that set XOOM aprt from everyone else... NO ADVERTISEMENTS, it's perhaps the best feture. And no pop up screens either. All that you do have to do is put a link in you page back to the XOOM homepage. Very nice.
- GeoCities You get 11 megabytes of space for your site, a full set of tools, technical support and the finest sense of community in cyberspace. It's alright, but the pop up navigation screen just pisses me off. I can't stand it. That alone was reason for me to search out the web for differerent web hosting. But other than that its a good site. Lots of space, good neighborhoods, good articles. Worth it (free) if you can handle the extra pop ups evry time someone comes to your site.
- Tripod Get ten megabytes of space. Lots of other goodies. Homepage generator or FTP upload. Not bad, but suffers from the same pop up and piss me off problem that Geocities suffers from. You can eliminate the pop up by putting it at the top of your page, but that's almost just as bad. I say go with XOOM!
- Bigfoot Not so much web hosting, but URL redirecting. What Bigfoot offers is a permanant address for your page, similar to permanent e-mail (which they also have). So all you do is tell bigfoot where you want them to direct people to get to your page. It all happens seamlessly without anyones knowledge. That's right, no advertisments, and it's free!
- InternetJump Again, it's not really web host but URL redirecting. They set up two addresses for you at once. One will be fast.to/you and the other is www.internetjump.com/you. It's still pretty new so you have a good chance of getting the name you want. But they don't have matching e-mail, so if that is a concern stick with bigfoot.
Other free web-hosting sites
- CONKWorld very nice, of the wall sort of web community, good for many a laugh. But small, I wouldn't mind that so much but I can't even upload anything. And everything must be uploaded one file at a time! But no advertisements. Your only requirement is a banner for conk anywhere on your front page (usually at the bottom). Not too shabby.
- Angelfire Communications - free home pages with a 200K limit on content. They also have graphics that you can use to keep the size of your pages smaller.
- Internet the City Online! - Personal Web site up to 3MB
- ProHosting Virtual Web Hosting
- Forfree - 2 MB webspace. They don't care what you use this space for but they do not allow any "adult stuff" or pornographic material. You cannot use any type of server-side applications like JAVA Applications, CGI scripts or SSI Tags. You may only use client-based applications like JAVA applets, ActiveX controls, JavaScript or VRML etc.
- FreeYellow - 5 programming free web pages, lifetime e-mail address, page counters, online CHAT rooms and lots more
- Bran Promotions' Free Web Pages - Free Pages providing you can meet the following criteria: -You keep your pages to less than 100k in total, including all graphics. -No commercial or money making pages. -Keep 'em clean! No nudity, obscenity or racism. That includes any links you may include in your pages. -You agree to include an advertising banner on your pages.
- Crosswinds Internet Communications Inc. - "We do not have an size limits on your accounts.
- Darkcastle Free Web Hosting - "We will allow our users to upload as many pages as they would like. Server space is not a problem .... While we do not believe in censorship, we do ask that you make sure that the content of your site is within the law. Note: Darkcastle's still supply free pages but they now ask for a $2.00 setup fee and you must apply by surface mail.
